Comments in Falcon Rundown

Falcon Rundown features a comprehensive commenting system that enables teams to communicate and collaborate at three levels: Project, Rundown, and Story.

Overview of Comment Levels

 

Project Comments

 

Project comments apply to the entire project. These are ideal for:

  • General communication about the project as a whole

  • Important information for all team members

  • High-level decisions and guidelines

 

How to access project comments:

  • Click the comment icon next to the project name in the sidebar

  • The number of comments is displayed as a badge on the icon

 

Rundown Comments

 

Rundown comments are tied to a specific rundown. Use these for:

  • Discussions about the rundown’s structure

  • Coordinating work within this rundown

  • Feedback on the overall content

 

How to access rundown comments:

  • When a rundown is open, the comment button is available in the rundown view

  • A badge shows the number of active comments for this rundown

 

Story Comments

 

Story comments are tied to individual stories. Perfect for:

  • Specific feedback on a story’s content

  • Editorial notes and corrections

  • Detailed instructions for specific segments

 

How to access story comments:

  • Open a story in the editor

  • Click the comment icon in the editor’s top bar

  • A badge shows the number of comments for this story

 

Private vs. Public Comments

 

The comment system supports two types:

 

Public Comments (Default)

  • Visible to all team members with access to the project

  • Used for general communication and feedback

  • Promotes transparent collaboration

 

Private Comments

  • Only visible to you

  • Useful for personal notes and reminders

  • Clearly marked with a lock icon

 

How to create a private comment:

  • Enable the Private checkbox before sending the comment

  • Private comments are only counted for you in badge numbers

Comment functionality respects the project’s access levels:

 

  • Read/Write

    • Can read comments: Yes

    • Can write comments: Yes

    • Can delete own comments: Yes

    • Can delete others: ?

 

  • Comment Only

    • Can read comments: Yes

    • Can write comments: Yes

    • Can delete own comments: Yes

    • Can delete others: No

 

  • Read Only (ro)

    • Can read comments: Yes

    • Can write comments: No

    • Can delete own comments: No

    • Can delete others: No

 

  • Superuser

    • Can read comments: Yes

    • Can write comments: Yes

    • Can delete own comments: Yes

    • Can delete others: Yes

 

  • Project Owner

    • Can read comments: Yes

    • Can write comments: Yes

    • Can delete own comments: Yes

    • Can delete others: Yes

 

Features in the Comment Panel

 

Create Comment

 

  • Type your comment in the text field

  • Choose whether it should be private (optional)

  • Click Send or press Enter

 

Edit Comment

 

  • Click Edit on your own comment

  • Make changes

  • Save or cancel

 

Delete Comment

 

  • Click Delete on your own comment

  • Project owners and superusers can delete all comments

  • Deleted comments are permanently removed

 

Timestamps

 

  • All comments show when they were created

  • Edited comments also show the time of the last edit

 

Plan Limitations

 

Comment functionality requires an active subscription plan:

  • ? Included in Pro and Enterprise plans

  • ? Not available in Free/Basic plans

 

If comments are not available:

  • Buttons are shown with reduced opacity

  • A tooltip explains that the feature is not included in your plan

 

Best Practices

 

Communication

 

  • Use project comments for important announcements to the entire team

  • Use rundown comments for coordinating work on a specific broadcast

  • Use story comments for detailed feedback on individual content

 

Organization

 

  • Keep comments relevant and concise

  • Use private comments for your own work notes

  • Delete or edit comments when they’re no longer relevant

 

Collaboration

 

  • Don’t make project-wide decisions only in story comments

  • Ensure important decisions are also documented outside the comment system

  • Use comments as a supplement to other communication, not as a replacement

 

Technical Details

 

Real-time Updates

  • Comments update automatically when the panel is open, so you always see the latest contributions from the team

 

Notifications

 

Badge counters update dynamically:

  • Shows the number of active (non-deleted) comments

  • Private comments are only counted for the owner

  • Not automatically reset, always shows the total count

 

Integration with Lock System

 

  • Comments do not affect editor locks

  • You can comment on a story even if another user has the content lock
