Planning, Columns and Workspace Layouts
Falcon Rundown can be used as both a live rundown and a production plan. This guide explains the timing tools, flexible Story List columns and personal story-window layouts introduced in version 1.3.17.
Plan with Hit Time and To Next
The main time above each story is calculated from the rundown start time and the durations of the previous stories.
- Hit Time is an optional target clock time for a story.
- To Next is the planned time from the current story to the next story.
Select the small edit button beside a story time to add a Hit Time. If no Hit Time is needed, the input remains hidden.
Automatic and manual values
Falcon normally derives times from the rundown. You can override Hit Time or To Next when a production plan needs a fixed time. A manually entered value is shown in green. Use the reset icon inside the field to return to automatic calculation.
When a manual To Next value is entered, the following story is calculated from the new interval. This makes it possible to plan gaps, travel, preparation or other activity between story points without creating extra stories.
A practical reality-production flow
- Set the rundown start time.
- Create the planned production points in order.
- Use To Next for the expected interval between two points.
- Add Hit Time only where a fixed clock time matters.
- Look for green values to see which times were entered manually.
- Reset a manual value when the story should follow the automatic schedule again.
Choose visible columns
Select Columns beside OnAirScroll to show or hide Story List columns. The selection is saved in the current browser, so each user can keep a practical working view without changing the rundown for everyone else.
Manage custom columns
Open Manage Columns to create and edit reusable column sets. Available custom column types include:
- Text for a short single-line value.
- Multiline for longer notes. The field grows with its content.
- Checkbox for a simple yes or no state.
- Colour for a colour marker.
- Status for one named, coloured status.
- Element selector for several named, coloured selections. Selected elements are shown below the selector, one per line.
The same window can rename the built-in Story List headers for rundowns using that column set.
Rename workspace story item labels
A workspace administrator can open the workspace Actions menu and edit the standard labels for Input, Video, Graphic, Sound, Light, Props and Instruction. These names apply throughout the workspace, including the Story Editor, Sidenotes and Print Options.
In the compact Sidenotes colour selector, Falcon displays the first two letters of each custom label.
Arrange story windows
The workspace can arrange open story windows as Floating, Grid, Rows or Columns. Open another rundown with Open in new window when it should be shown beside the current rundown. Use the tabs to move between open rundowns and the title-bar controls to change view, minimise, maximise or restore a window.
Save a workspace layout
A workspace layout stores the current story-window arrangement for your user in the current project. Save a layout after arranging the windows, then select it later to return to the same setup. Layouts are personal, so another user can keep a different arrangement for the same project.
Images in stories
Image attachments are shown as lightweight thumbnails with a maximum height of 100 pixels. Move the pointer over a thumbnail to load a larger preview of the original image. Unchanged images remain in place during background refreshes, avoiding repeated flashing.
