Storylist Tools

Overview

 

The Storylist is the central area in Falcon Rundown where you work with stories and storylines. It includes a complete set of tools for creating, editing, organizing, and controlling your rundown.

 

Main Buttons and Functions

 

Creating New Lines

 

New line / New Note button

  • Location: Top of the Storylist header

  • Function: Creates a new story line or note

  • Shortcut: F1

  • Note: The button text changes to New Note when working in a notelist

 

Plus button (bottom)

  • Location: Bottom of the Storylist

  • Function: Quick access to add a new line without scrolling to the top

 

View Options

Times button

  • Function: Show or hide time columns (Manual, Text, Total)

  • Indicator: The button turns red when times are hidden

  • Default: Times are shown by default

  • Note: Not available for notelists

 

Items button

  • Function: Show or hide all tag blocks (camera, server, graphics, sound, light, props, instructions)

  • Indicator: Active when items are hidden

 

Sidenotes button

  • Function: Show or hide production notes and sidenotes

  • Indicator: Active when notes are hidden

 

Comments button

  • Function: Show or hide comments with a dropdown menu

  • Submenu:

    • Public: Show or hide public comments

    • Private: Show or hide private comments

  • Indicator: Active when all comments are hidden

 

Handnotes button

  • Function: Enable or disable hand-drawn notes on stories

  • Indicator: Active when handnotes are hidden

  • Note: When enabled, you can draw directly on stories using brushes and colors

 

OnAirScroll button

  • Function: Automatic scrolling that follows live playback

  • Condition: Only available when Timing Mode is active

  • Indicator: Active when auto-scroll is disabled

 

Rundown Actions

These actions are available from the Storylist menu button:

 

Renumber

  • Function: Renumbers all stories sequentially (1, 2, 3, etc.)

  • Shortcut: F2

  • Note: Removes sub-numbers and only assigns numbers to main story lines

 

Cuecards

  • Function: Opens the cuecard view in a new window

  • Requirement: Cuecards must be included in your plan

 

Prompter

  • Function: Opens the teleprompter in a new window

  • Requirement: Prompter must be included in your plan

 

Print

  • Function: Opens the print dialog for script and rundown PDF

  • Requirement: Print must be included in your plan

 

Timing Mode Controls

Start

  • Function: Starts Timing Mode and sets the rundown to on-air

  • Shortcut: Alt + F10

  • Requirement: Timing Mode must be included in your plan

  • Note: Starts live timing without requiring a specific story to be active

 

Stop

  • Function: Stops Timing Mode

  • Shortcut: Alt + F10 (same as Start)

  • Indicator: Red background when active

 

Previous

  • Function: Moves to the previous story in live playback

  • Shortcut: F11

  • Condition: Only active when a story is on-air

 

Next

  • Function: Moves to the next story in live playback

  • Shortcut: F12

  • Indicator: Green background

  • Note: If no story is active, the first story becomes active

 

Story-Level Tools

Each story item includes tools on the right side:

 

Comments button

  • Function: Opens the comment panel for the selected story

  • Badge: Shows the comment count (public plus your own private)

  • Condition: Only shown when Handnotes are disabled

 

Row Color button

  • Function: Opens a palette to color-code the story row

  • Available colors:

    • Camera

    • Server

    • Graphic

    • Sound

    • Light

    • Props

    • Instruction

    • Neutral

  • Condition: Only shown when Handnotes are disabled

 

Drawing button

  • Function: Enables drawing mode for this story

  • Indicator: Turns orange when active

  • Condition: Only available when Handnotes are enabled

  • Note: Only one story can be in drawing mode at a time

 

Delete button

  • Function: Deletes the selected story

  • Shortcut: Delete or Backspace (when the story is selected)

  • Confirmation: Requires confirmation before deletion

  • Condition: Only shown when Handnotes are disabled

 

Time Management

 

Time Settings

 

  • Location: In the header column at Total

  • Function: Opens a dialog to ignore VO times in total calculations

 

Start Time field

 

  • Location: Header near the number column

  • Function: Sets the show start time (HH:MM:SS)

  • Formatting: Automatically formats to HH:MM:SS while typing

 

End Time field

  • Location: Footer

  • Function: Sets the show end time (HH:MM:SS)

  • Note: The difference between planned and actual end time is shown with color indicators

 

Rundown Metadata

 

Favorite

  • Location: Next to the rundown title

  • Function: Mark or unmark the rundown as a favorite

  • Indicator: Filled star means favorite, empty star means not favorite

 

Rundown Title

  • Function: Click to rename the rundown

  • Note: Opens a dialog where you can enter a new name

 

Rundown Comments

  • Function: Opens comments for the entire rundown (not a specific story)

  • Badge: Shows the number of rundown-level comments

 

History

  • Function: Shows deleted stories that can be restored

  • Requirement: History must be included in your plan

  • Note: Opens a dedicated Deleted Stories view

 

Keyboard Shortcuts

  • F1: Create new story or note

  • F2: Renumber stories

  • Alt + F10: Start or stop Timing Mode

  • F11: Previous story (Timing Mode)

  • F12: Next story (Timing Mode)

  • Delete / Backspace: Delete selected story or stories

  • Space: Edit title of selected story

  • Up / Down: Navigate between stories

  • Shift + Click: Select a range of stories

  • Ctrl/Cmd + Click: Add or remove a story from the selection

  • Ctrl/Cmd + S: Save changes

 

Multi-Selection and Drag and Drop

 

Multi-Selection

  • Single click: Select one story

  • Ctrl/Cmd + click: Add or remove a story from the selection

  • Shift + click: Select the range between two stories

  • Note: When multiple stories are selected, auto-scroll is disabled

 

Drag and Drop

  • How to drag: Use the drag handle on the left side of the story row

  • Multi-drag: Drag multiple selected stories at once

  • Auto-scroll: Automatically scrolls when dragging near the edge

  • Note: Drag and drop is disabled on touch devices

 

Live Timing Features

 

Timer Row

When a story is on-air, a timer row appears showing:

  • Spent: Time spent on the story

  • Left: Time remaining (turns red when overtime)

 

Progress Bar

  • A progress bar appears at the top of the story card and shows progress in real time

 

Color Coding

  • Green: Story is active (on-air)

  • Different background colors: Based on story type (camera, server, etc.)

 

 

The footer area shows:

  • End Time: Planned end time (editable)

  • Total Duration: Total duration of all stories

  • Difference: Difference between planned and actual end time

    • Green or normal: Within the planned timeframe

    • Red: Overtime

Mobile View

 

On mobile devices:

  • Buttons are grouped into menus to save space

  • A Back button appears for switching between the Storylist and the editor

  • Drag and drop is disabled

  • Input fields may be disabled in the story stage for easier navigation

 

Access Control

 

Some features are restricted based on your subscription plan:

  • Comments

  • Cuecards

  • Prompter

  • Print

  • Timing Mode

  • History

 

If a feature is not available:

  • The button is shown with reduced opacity

  • A tooltip explains that you need to upgrade your plan

 

Tips and Tricks

 

 

  • Use arrow keys to move between stories instead of the mouse

  • Select multiple stories with Ctrl/Shift and delete them in one action

  • Use row colors to visually group related stories

  • Time fields auto-format to HH:MM:SS as you type

  • Your scroll position is remembered when switching between rundowns

  • Use the comment filter to focus on public or private comments
